CARANA proudly sponsors U.S.-Africa Business Summit in Cape Town

Arlington, Virginia November 28, 2006 - CARANA hosted a panel of business leaders and experts during the bi-annual conference of the Corporate Council on Africa (CCA), an organization that facilitates commercial relationship between the United States and African countries. CCA's conference - which was held in Africa for the first time - brought together some 1500 delegates, including heads of state, ministers, major decision makers, and senior executives from all major U.S. companies. CARANA's panel presented the experience of African exporters, buyers of African products and providers of export and investment support in a discussion of the success factors for penetrating the U.S. market and the relationship between these success factors and the investment needed to achieve market readiness and maintain and expand market share. CARANA is implementing USAID-funded West Africa Trade Hub and Southern Africa Trade Hub competitiveness projects.

The panelists and participants discussed increased interest in products from Africa, trends in U.S. markets, buyers' experiences of sourcing from Africa, practical implications for Africa's emerging exporters, investment and business strategy challenges of shifting production orientation to the U.S. export market, critical areas where investments and upgrades are needed to maintain a foothold in U.S. markets and opportunities for U.S. investment in Africa's exporting companies.
