CARANA Corporation Awarded Guyana Trade and Investment
(GTIS) Project by USAID
Arlington, VA—The CARANA Corporation was
recently awarded the Guyana Trade and Investment (GTIS) project by
the United States
Agency for International Development (USAID), which will support
the Mission’s strategic objective of “Environment for
sustained growth of value-added exports strengthened.”CARANA
leads a consortium including Economic
Competitiveness Group (ECG), Citizens
Development Corp (CDC).
The GTIS Project is designed to maximize Guyana’s benefits
from international trade agreements and position target firms to
exploit market opportunities. The CARANA approach is based on the
premise that targeted activities focusing on Guyana’s industry-specific
critical success factors can create an environment for sustainable
growth. The project is broken into four key components:
-
Component A will organize industry clusters,
identify their key success factors, and work with institutional
actors to help create an export growth environment.
-
Component B will provide firm-level technical
assistance focused on specific factors (standards, quality management,
marketing) that will generate exports.
-
Component C will strengthen the private-public
consultative process and increase civil society support to enable
progressive policy movement.
-
Component D will implement trade capacity
building activities that will assist public stakeholders to turn
existing trade commitments (CARICOM, WTO, bilateral agreements)
into real market opportunities for businesses.
The GTIS Team will work with a range of local and regional counterparts,
including public sector trade institutions, private sector business
organizations, civil society groups, financial institutions, CARICOM,
and numerous donors with economic growth activities in Guyana.
